I will tell you what it is for me. I grew up in an immigrant family and it was very important to fit in. We didn’t want to make waves. We wanted to fit in everywhere that we went. We wanted to be successful. That’s the reason I became a lawyer, because it was a path to being successful. And in my life, you didn’t want to embarrass the family in any way. And being different in any way was embarrassing. But at some point I decided I didn’t want to live the life that my parents wanted me to live. I wanted to live my life.
And when I made that decision, I became a much happier person. So what is it that’s stopping people? Stories that they’ve written for themselves, saying, I’m not good enough, people will laugh at me. Well, what’s going to happen if somebody laughs at you? Nothing. What’s going to happen if some silly thing you did in the past comes out? Nothing. Truly, you’re breathing. And whatever happened in the past happened. It’s not happening now. And the beauty of creation and imagination and life is that you get to choose who you get to be each day and share with the world.
